Writing
I've made a living by and indulged my passion for writing for about a decade now, working for agencies, magazines, businesses, and consulting firms--all of which entail a varied skill set. My writing falls into three camps: narrative, technical, and training.
Note: What portfolio items are not proprietary are of course available upon request.
Narrative
"Narrative" copy here includes everything from case studies to blog and social media posts to magazine features, and everything in between. I believe profoundly in the power of story in our lives and in our identities, especially how messages are processed and why. Because of this, my education in semiotics, and the opportunities I've been lucky enough to have, I'm pretty deft at tailoring content to voice and audience, including culture. Previous work has included magazine pieces on the tattoo artists of Painted Temple for other artists, to gentler fashion and homemaking features for highly religious ladies, to pitches for the Prime Minister of Haiti, and more.
Technical
At both EIVA and Accenture, it was often my role to communicate highly technical content, including instruction manuals, solution requirements, analyses, training, and other documentation. No system (that I've encountered, anyway) is too complex to be communicated in simple, understandable, easily conceptualized terms. Most important in these projects is to produce clear and concise writing, always keeping in mind the scope and purpose of the documentation. I also enjoyed this type of writing because I always was able to learn something new, like how underwater vehicle tracking works, or what's relevant to track in construction projects across an entire country, or how wind farms are built.
Training
An old hand at training now in all its permutations, I've been in charge of writing and at times delivering training on almost every project. My training projects have included how to run a social assistance program (for Haitians) to what geodesy is (for Danes and the Danish-adjacent), to how to handle investment proposals (for American and British folks), in forms including eLearning, to presentations, to good old Word documents for perusal at their leisure.
